BioWin, the Health Cluster of Wallonia
Created in July 2006, BioWin is the reference player in the field of health biotechnology and medical technologies in Wallonia (a region located South Brussels, in Belgium). The cluster federates all the Walloon stakeholders (companies, research centers and universities) involved in innovative R&D projects and/or trainings for the development of new products and services:

  • 130 companies (which 5 global leaders: Baxter, Eurogentec-Kaneka, GSK, IBA and UCB).
  • 400 research centers (gathering more than 11.000 researchers).
  • 5 universities (Université Catholique de Louvain - UCL, Université Libre de Bruxelles - ULB, Université de Liège - ULg, Université de Mons - UMons and Université de Namur - Namur).
  • Several prestigious research institutes such as the Duve Institute, the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, the GIGA, IMI, CCMI, ICP, etc...


IMMUNEHEALTH IS A GLOBAL BIOMARKER CRO (CONTRACT RESEARCH ORGANIZATION) SPECIALIZING IN:

  • Human Biospecimen procurement,
  • Processing and storage,
  • Validation of biomarker panel thanks to the design and conduct of clinical studies,
  • Immunomonitoring readouts for clinical trials and biomarkers immunotesting,
  • Development/validation/testing of QC methods for biologics.


sCINNAMIC Centre for Innovation in Medicine is focusing entirely on human health with the ability to promote translational research from lab bench to patient bedside and vice versa. You are looking for academic competences to leverage in human health? We can support you!

In order to support the universities, the BWB has received in 2014 funding from the regional authorities (Région de Bruxelles Capitale – Innoviris and Région Wallonne - DG06) with the objective of providing a virtual catalogue of biospecimens that is not limited to cancer, but facilitates research on other diseases as well.

INNOVIRIS The Brussels Institute for Research and Innovation is a public agency established in 2004 answering directly to the regional minister with responsibility for scientific research. Its mission is to support and encourage research, development and innovation in and for Brussels through the funding of innovative projects of companies, research organisations and the non-profit sector. More specifically the organic missions of the agency are:

  • The encouragement, financial support and commercialisation of scientific research and technological innovation in accordance with regional policy;
  • Communication on science policy issues;
  • Representing the region within various organisations or committees related to science, technology and innovation at regional, federal, European and international levels;
  • Provision of statistical indicators and information to Brussels research actors.

The Directorate General Operational for Economy, Employment and Research (DGO6), belonging to the Public Service of Wallonia (SPW), is the legal regional administration in charge of implementing and controlling aids granted to industries, academia and research centers for economic policy, employment and training, and research, including European research Programmes. It is the key advisory body for the Regional government authorities involving research and innovation policy.
